Where Bloom fits · the biggest difference

A full base and strength line, with no stage bottles.

Cutting Edge runs a liquid 3-part base, dry Louder Powder bases and a strong set of supporting additives: cal-mag, silica, carbs, traces and a brewed tea. What their list doesn’t have is one bottle per stage of the crop. That’s where Pre, Ultra, Phat, Ooze and Final go, on top of the base you already mix.

  • Stays as is: Micro, Grow and Bloom (Cutting Edge Solutions), Louder Powder, Ascent and the pH line.
  • Both have one: cal-mag, silica, carbs, traces, humic and kelp. Run one, or test them side by side.
  • Not on their list: stage additives for mid veg, the flip, mid flower, late flower and the finish.

Where a job isn’t on Cutting Edge Solutions’s list

Why each one fits

What the Bloom product does, the research behind that kind of input, and where it sits in a program that already runs.

Not on their list · by stage

One bottle for each step

What it does. Pre in mid veg (weeks 2–3), Ultra at the flip (flower weeks 1–2), Phat in flower weeks 3 and 4. 1 ml/L, 1 ml/L and 2.5 ml/L, weekly. These are timing tools, so there’s no study cited for them here.

How it stacks. Cutting Edge’s Grow page drops Grow at flowering, and their charts move the base by stage. These sit in those same weeks on top of Micro and Bloom (Cutting Edge Solutions). Our read: check runoff EC when you add anything.

Pre · Ultra · Phat

Not on their list · late flower

Ooze and Final at the back end

What it does. Ooze is plant extracts, fulvic acid, vitamins and amino acids at 2.5 ml/L weekly, from flower week 5 right through the final flush. Final runs 1 ml/L weekly over the last two weeks, alongside Ooze.

How it stacks. Their Bloom page lists an optional flush at 10 ml/gal, and Cal-Mag Amplified can be cut back in late flower. Ooze and Final go into those late weeks with the base held where it is (our read).

Ooze · Final

Not on their list · weekly tonic

Tuna and kelp in the tank

What it does. Seafuel is tuna and kelp; Seaweed is southern bull kelp. Both run at 1 ml/L weekly: Seaweed from seedling through the flush, Seafuel from clone through late flower, tapering at the flush.

The science Well supported

Reviews of seaweed extracts report effects on growth and stress tolerance across many crops. Work on protein hydrolysates, which fish inputs belong to, is newer and links them to nutrient uptake, mostly under stress. None of it tests these bottles or cannabis.

Ali et al. (2021), Plants (review) · Malécange et al. (2023), Int J Mol Sci (review)

How it stacks. HumTea brings kelp in a brewed tea, used weekly or bi-weekly per its page. Seaweed and Seafuel are pour-in liquids, so a grower running the liquid or Louder Powder base can add them without a brewer (our read).

Seafuel · Seaweed

Not on their list · cuttings

Roots from the cut onwards

What it does. Roots runs at 1 ml/L as a cutting dip, or 0.5 ml/L weekly from cuttings and veg through flower, stopping in the final 1–2 weeks.

How it stacks. Micro’s page sets 2 ml/gal for cuttings and seedlings. Roots goes alongside that first feed, then carries on in the weekly chart (our read).

Timing comes from each Cutting Edge product page and their feed chart PDF. Grow stops at flowering. Bloom’s optional flush rate is pale. Cal-Mag Amplified can be reduced or stopped in late flower. Bulletproof SI’s page says through flower week 6, the chart says week 4, so week 5+ is pale. Sugaree SP’s page says week 3 to harvest, the liquid pages just say flower. HumTea is brewed and used weekly or bi-weekly, so it’s pale (our read). Bloom’s bars follow its weekly feed charts; pale Bloom bars are tapers or as-needed bottles.

Where both ranges have one

Put it side by side

Where both ranges have a product for the same job, the fair answer is a test in your own room. Here’s what to watch and how to keep it fair.

Cal-Mag Amplified (Cutting Edge Solutions)andCal-Mag
What to watch: New leaf colour and runoff EC, with the base feed held the same.
Bulletproof SIandSilica
What to watch: Tank clarity and pH after mixing, and stem strength by mid flower.
Sugaree · Sour-DeeandSWTNR
What to watch: Runoff EC and pH drift through flower, and dry weight at harvest.
HumTeaandHumate · Seaweed
What to watch: Root colour and density at transplant, and mixing time each week.

Keeping it fair

  1. Same plants. Clones off the same mother, same cultivar, same age.
  2. Same room. Same light, climate, media, pot size and watering.
  3. Same base. Keep the base feed and EC the same on both sides.
  4. One change. Change only the product being tested, and write down what you see each week.
Where we fit together

Where the programs complement each other

High · late flower

Stage bottles in their back end

Late flower on Cutting Edge’s list is Bloom (Cutting Edge Solutions), Sugaree and Uncle John’s, with no stage additive. Ooze from week 5 through the flush and Final over the last two weeks go on top, 2.5 and 1 ml/L weekly.

High · weekly tonics

Kelp, tuna and humic on Louder Powder

Louder Powder is an all-mineral dry base. Seafuel, Seaweed and Humate add tuna, kelp and humic acid at 1–2.5 ml/L weekly. HumTea does a similar job as a brewed tea in their soil line (our read).

Medium · cuttings

Roots next to Micro at the cut

Micro’s page runs 2 ml/gal for cuttings and seedlings. Roots goes on as a 1 ml/L dip, then 0.5 ml/L weekly through flower.

More detail

Background, science and sources

Who Cutting Edge Solutions are

Cutting Edge Solutions is an independent, family-owned nutrient maker founded in 2001 by John Piccirilli, known as Uncle John. His nephew Sean Piccirilli is CEO. They started in Santa Rosa, California, moved to White City, Oregon in 2022, and list a team of 25. There’s also a CES Colombia site.

The range is split into families: Base (Micro, Grow, Bloom), Mineral (Louder Powder), Strength (Plant Amp, Mag Amped, Uncle John’s Blend, Cal-Mag Amplified), Advanced Molecular (Sugaree, Sour-Dee, Bulletproof SI), Balance (pH) and Elemental (Ascent and HumTea) for amended and living soil. They sell online, through local stores and distribution partners, to small growers through to large commercial sites, with injection charts for bigger setups.

What each company brings

Cutting Edge Solutions: A liquid 3-part base, dry Louder Powder and Ascent bases, cal-mag and single Ca and Mg bottles, silica, carbohydrate and trace additives, a brewed humic tea, pH adjusters, and reservoir, injection and foliar charts.

Bloom: one additive for each stage of the crop, seaweed, humic and sea mineral inputs, foliar sprays, and weekly feed charts for soil, coco and hydro. Rates and timing are on every product page.

Cropping Solutions, the other brand under Agricultural Organics, isn’t part of this report.

Dose basis: how each side counts

Cutting Edge prints liquid rates in ml per US gallon for reservoirs, injector ratios for bigger setups, and grams per gallon for the powders. Their product pages don’t state how often to feed. At 3.785 L to the gallon, Cal-Mag Amplified at 5 ml/gal is about 1.3 ml/L, Bulletproof SI at 1 ml/gal is about 0.26 ml/L, and Sugaree at 10 ml/gal is about 2.6 ml/L.

Bloom prints ml per litre on a weekly feed chart: Cal-Mag 1 ml/L, Silica 0.33 ml/L and SWTNR 1 ml/L, weekly. Their rates sit on their own charts, so the same number on each side isn’t the same weekly amount.

Mix calculator

Rates as printed on each company’s page (1 US gallon is 3.785 L). Bloom’s rates are per litre of nutrient solution, dosed weekly per its feed charts. Pick a product and your tank size.

Silicon and plant stressEmerging

A 2017 editorial in Frontiers in Plant Science introducing a research topic on silicon says it’s widely studied for stress tolerance, but there’s still no conclusive evidence on exactly how it works.

Why it matters here: Bulletproof SI and Bloom Silica are both silicates that go in the tank first. The research backs silicon as worth a look, with open questions, so treat the benefit as emerging.

Deshmukh, Ma and Bélanger (2017), Frontiers in Plant Science (editorial)

Humic substances in the root zoneWell supported

A 2015 review in Scientia Horticulturae links humic and fulvic acids to lateral root growth and to changes in roots and shoots tied to nutrient uptake.

Why it matters here: HumTea lists humic acids and Bloom Humate is 10% humic acid, so both sit on the same body of research. It doesn’t test either product.
