Where Bloom fits · the biggest difference

A clean mineral program, with room for the tonics.

Athena’s fertiliser lines are mineral: Blended liquids, Pro powders, CaMg and PK, plus Stack, a kelp extract. Their list has no fish, humic, carbohydrate or sea-mineral input, and no bottle per stage. Seafuel, Humate, SWTNR and Sea Minerals go in the same tank at small weekly rates.

  • Stays as is: Grow and Bloom A and B, the Pro Line, the Clean Line and the Tissue Culture Kit.
  • Both have one: cal-mag, PK, kelp, a finish, silicate, IPM and a rooting product.
  • Not on their list: fish, humic, carbs, sea minerals and stage additives.
The 30-second version

Athena and Bloom in short

4Keep

Blended or Pro base, the Clean Line and the Tissue Culture Kit.

7Overlap

CaMg, PK, Stack, Fade, Balance, IPM and Cuts each sit near a Bloom product.

3Bloom fits

Seafuel, Humate, SWTNR, Sea Minerals and the Pre, Ultra, Phat and Ooze stage additives.

Where a job isn’t on Athena’s list

Why each one fits

What the Bloom product does, the research behind that kind of input, and where it sits in a program that already runs.

Not on their list · weekly

Fish and humic next to Stack

What it does. Seafuel is tuna and kelp at 1 ml/L weekly, clone through late flower. Humate is 10% humic acid at 2.5 ml/L weekly, seedling through flush.

The science Well supported

A major review links humic substances to more lateral roots and to root changes tied to nutrient uptake. Work on protein hydrolysates, which fish inputs belong to, links them to nutrient uptake, mostly under stress. None of it tests these bottles or cannabis.

Canellas et al. (2015), Scientia Horticulturae (review) · Malécange et al. (2023), Int J Mol Sci (review)

How it stacks. Stack’s page says add it last to the reservoir and it’s safe in irrigation. Our read: treat Bloom’s organic inputs the same way, after the base and CaMg, and watch EC.

Seafuel · Humate

Not on their list · tank add-ons

Carbs and sea minerals

What it does. SWTNR is carbohydrates and potassium at 1 ml/L weekly, veg week 2 to the flush. Sea Minerals is trace minerals from sea water at 0.13 ml/L weekly, veg to bloom.

How it stacks. Athena’s two-part bases carry chelated micros per their pages, so Sea Minerals adds to them rather than standing in for them (our read). Both are small doses on top of the base.

SWTNR · Sea Minerals

Not on their list · by stage

One bottle per stage

What it does. Pre in mid veg, Ultra at the flip (flower weeks 1–2), Phat in flower weeks 3 and 4, Ooze from week 5 right through the final flush. These are timing tools, so there’s no study cited for them here.

How it stacks. Athena’s program splits into veg and flower, with PK from week 3 and Fade at the end. These go into those same weeks without touching the base plan (our read: check runoff when you add anything).

Pre · Ultra · Phat · Ooze

Both have one · kelp

Stack early, Seaweed all the way

What it does. Seaweed is southern bull kelp at 1 ml/L weekly, seedling through the flush.

The science Well supported

A 2021 review of seaweed extracts reports effects on growth, yield and tolerance of drought, salt and cold across many crops. It covers kelp as a group, not either product.

Ali et al. (2021), Plants (review)

How it stacks. Stack’s page stops it at flower week 3. Seaweed can run either side of that window, or a grower can test the two in the weeks they share (our read).

Seaweed

Where we fit together

Where the programs complement each other

High · weekly

Fish, humic, carbs and sea minerals in the tank

Athena’s list has no fish, humic, carbohydrate or sea-mineral input. Seafuel, Humate, SWTNR and Sea Minerals go in at 0.13–2.5 ml/L weekly over Blended or Pro.

High · by stage

Stage bottles over their veg and flower split

Athena runs a veg base, a flower base, PK from week 3 and Fade at the end. Pre, Ultra, Phat and Ooze add one job per stage on top, at 1–2.5 ml/L weekly.

Medium · cuttings

Cuts at the cut, Roots after it

Cuts is a gel applied to the stem. Roots works as a 1 ml/L dip or at 0.5 ml/L weekly in the feed, so a grower could run them in sequence or test one against the other (our read).

Where both ranges have one

Put it side by side

Where both ranges have a product for the same job, the fair answer is a test in your own room. Here’s what to watch and how to keep it fair.

CaMg (Athena)andCal-Mag
What to watch: Runoff EC and pH, and new-growth colour, with the base held the same.
PK (Athena)andPK
What to watch: Start week in flower and runoff EC each week.
FadeandFinal
What to watch: Runoff EC over the last two weeks and leaf colour at chop.
CutsandRoots
What to watch: Days to first roots and root mass, same clone batch, same dome.

Keeping it fair

  1. Same plants. Clones off the same mother, same cultivar, same age.
  2. Same room. Same light, climate, media, pot size and watering.
  3. Same base. Keep the base feed and EC the same on both sides.
  4. One change. Change only the product being tested, and write down what you see each week.

Timing comes from Athena’s product pages. Grow A and B are for veg, Bloom A and B for flower; Fade takes the final two weeks in place of Core, so Bloom A and B is pale there (our read). CaMg is all stages as needed and IPM can be used seedling to harvest, so both are pale. Stack runs from the final veg week to flower week 3. Cleanse is regular use at low rates and a final flush. Bloom’s bars follow its weekly feed charts; pale Bloom bars are tapers or as-needed bottles.

More detail

Background, science and sources

Who Athena are

Athena says it was born in the grow rooms of Los Angeles, California. It serves hobby and craft growers through to large professional cultivators.

The Blended Line is liquids for simpler irrigation or hand watering, and the Pro Line is powders for advanced fertigation. Alongside sit IPM, Foliar (Stack), Clean, Culture and propagation lines. They sell through their online store, authorised dealers and international distributors, with bulk pricing for commercial facilities.

What each company brings

Athena: Liquid and powder bases, CaMg, PK, a kelp extract, Fade for the finish, pH buffers, line cleaners and sanitisers, a 25(b) IPM spray, a rooting gel and a tissue culture kit.

Bloom: one additive for each stage of the crop, seaweed, humic and sea mineral inputs, foliar sprays, and weekly feed charts for soil, coco and hydro. Rates and timing are on every product page.

Cropping Solutions, the other brand under Agricultural Organics, isn’t part of this report.

Dose basis: how each side counts

Athena prints rates in ml per US gallon: Bloom A at 2–15 ml/gal, CaMg at 2–10 ml/gal all stages as needed, Cleanse at 2–5 ml/gal for regular use, and Stack at 1–2 ml/gal as a weekly drench. At 3.785 L to the gallon, CaMg is about 0.5–2.6 ml/L and Stack about 0.26–0.53 ml/L.

Bloom prints ml per litre on a weekly feed chart. Athena’s pages point to their feed schedules for week-by-week rates, so the same number on each side isn’t the same weekly amount.

Mix calculator

Rates as printed on each company’s page (1 US gallon is 3.785 L). Bloom’s rates are per litre of nutrient solution, dosed weekly per its feed charts. Pick a product and your tank size.

Potassium in flowerWell supported

Hasanuzzaman and colleagues (2018) review potassium’s roles in plants: enzyme activation, stomatal control, photosynthesis, and tolerance to drought, salinity and heat.

Why it matters here: PK (Athena) and Bloom PK both lean on potassium in flower. The review is general plant science and doesn’t compare products or timing.
