SUPERthrive and Bloom
SUPERthrive is best known for one bottle: the kelp vitamin solution. Around it sit a liquid plant food, a silicon supplement and a few specialty feeds, so most of Bloom’s stage-by-stage range lands in open space.

One famous bottle, and a short list behind it.
The range on SUPERthrive’s own pages is the Vitamin Solution with Kelp, Foliage-Pro 9-3-6, Pro-TeKt 0-0-3, Orchid-Pro, Bonsai-Pro, a granular 4-4-4 and a neem leaf polish. There’s no humic, no calcium-magnesium and nothing built for a particular week of flower. That’s where Bloom’s weekly chart fills in.
- Stays as is: the granular 4-4-4, Orchid-Pro, Bonsai-Pro and the neem leaf polish.
- Both have one: a kelp tonic, a liquid base feed and a silicon supplement.
- Not on their list: humic, cal-mag, a root additive, and veg, flip and flower-stage bottles.
SUPERthrive and Bloom in short
The granular 4-4-4, Orchid-Pro, Bonsai-Pro and the neem leaf polish.
The kelp Vitamin Solution, Foliage-Pro and Pro-TeKt each sit near a Bloom product.
Humate, Sea Minerals, Cal-Mag, Roots, Seafuel, SWTNR and the Pre, Ultra, Phat, Ooze, PK and Final stage bottles.
Already covered
- The Vitamin Solution. Kelp and vitamins, for transplanting, clones and maintenance, in 4 oz to 1 gallon.
- A liquid base and a silicon. Foliage-Pro 9-3-6 and Pro-TeKt 0-0-3.
- Specialty and garden feeds. Orchid-Pro, Bonsai-Pro and a granular 4-4-4 with mycorrhizae.
- Leaf care. A cold-pressed neem oil leaf polish, OMRI listed per its page.
Stays exactly as is
- The granular 4-4-4. Bloom has no dry products.
- Orchid-Pro and Bonsai-Pro. Specialty foods Bloom doesn’t make.
- The neem leaf polish. Outside Bloom’s feed range.
Why each one fits
What the Bloom product does, the research behind that kind of input, and where it sits in a program that already runs.
Humic acid and trace minerals
What it does. Humate is 10% humic acid at 2.5 ml/L weekly, seedling through flush. Sea Minerals is trace minerals from sea water at 0.13 ml/L weekly, veg to bloom.
A major review links humic substances to nutrient uptake and to more lateral roots. It’s general plant science and doesn’t test either company’s products.
How it stacks. Small weekly doses that go in alongside whatever base you run, Foliage-Pro included (our read). Their Vitamin Solution says it can go with or without fertilizer, so there’s nothing in their directions that rules this out.
Calcium and magnesium
What it does. Cal-Mag is calcium and magnesium with iron and zinc, labelled 6.8-0-0, at 1 ml/L weekly through grow and bloom, stopping at the final flush. It works in soil, coco and hydro. It’s a straight nutrient top-up, so there’s no study cited for it here.
How it stacks. SUPERthrive’s own pages don’t list a cal-mag. Growers running Foliage-Pro or the Vitamin Solution in coco or RO water can add Cal-Mag weekly without changing the rest (our read).
A root additive in the weekly feed
What it does. Roots is amino acids, B vitamins and fulvic acid. It runs at 1 ml/L as a cutting dip, or 0.5 ml/L weekly from cuttings and veg through flower, stopping in the final 1–2 weeks.
A recent review covers amino acids and protein hydrolysates as biostimulants, including links to nutrient uptake. It doesn’t test Roots.
How it stacks. SUPERthrive pitches its Vitamin Solution for transplanting and clones. Roots carries on in the weekly feed after that, so the two can run side by side at the start (our read).
Kelp, on a set weekly chart
What it does. Seaweed is southern bull kelp at 1 ml/L weekly, seedling through the flush.
Reviews of seaweed extracts report effects on growth, nutrient uptake and stress tolerance across many crops. None of it tests these bottles.
How it stacks. Both bring kelp, so if you already run the Vitamin Solution, a side-by-side is the honest way to see what each adds. Their maintenance rate is 1/4 tsp per gallon, weekly or monthly, per their label.
A bottle for each week of flower
What it does. Phat is 2.5 ml/L weekly in flower weeks 3 and 4. Ooze is 2.5 ml/L weekly from week 5 right through the final flush, overlapping Final at 1 ml/L for the last two weeks. These are timing tools, so there’s no study cited for them here.
How it stacks. SUPERthrive’s cannabis guidance on its own page is a Vitamin Solution rate that changes by stage, used with a nutrient program. Bloom’s stage bottles slot in on top of that program week by week (our read).
Put it side by side
Where both ranges have a product for the same job, the fair answer is a test in your own room. Here’s what to watch and how to keep it fair.
Keeping it fair
- Same plants. Clones off the same mother, same cultivar, same age.
- Same room. Same light, climate, media, pot size and watering.
- Same base. Keep the base feed and EC the same on both sides.
- One change. Change only the product being tested, and write down what you see each week.
Their line, Bloom’s fit at a glance
Matched on job, not NPK. SUPERthrive prints rates in teaspoons per gallon and leaves the frequency fairly open; Bloom’s rates are per litre on a weekly feed chart. Tap a tag to filter.
Bloom has no dry or granular products, so this one stays put.
Specialty feeds for orchid and bonsai growers. Bloom doesn’t make crop-specific foods like these.
A leaf polish sits outside Bloom’s feed range. Bloom’s OrganiShield is labelled as an insecticide and miticide, which is a different job.
Both bring kelp. Theirs is a vitamin solution with kelp; Seaweed is southern bull kelp on a set weekly chart.
Both are a base feed. Foliage-Pro is one bottle; Bloom’s bases are two-part, with separate veg and bloom options.
Both are silicon products. Bloom Silica is potassium silicate labelled 0-0-4, veg through early flower.
10% humic acid from seedling to flush, plus trace minerals from sea water, veg to bloom.
Calcium and magnesium with iron and zinc, labelled 6.8-0-0, for soil, coco and hydro.
Amino acids, B vitamins and fulvic acid, from cuttings and veg through flower.
One additive for mid veg, one for the flip, one for the last two weeks.
Phat in flower weeks 3 and 4, Ooze from week 5 to the flush, PK as needed around week 5.
Tuna and kelp from clone to late flower, and carbohydrates and potassium from veg week 2 to the flush.
Where the programs complement each other
Stage bottles on top of their program
SUPERthrive’s range has nothing for a particular week of flower. Phat, Ooze and Final follow Bloom’s weekly chart from week 3 to the flush, alongside whatever base is running.
Humate and Cal-Mag with Foliage-Pro
Neither humic nor cal-mag shows up on SUPERthrive’s pages. Both go in weekly at small doses and work in soil, coco and hydro.
Kelp against kelp
The Vitamin Solution and Bloom Seaweed both bring kelp. A same-room test, with the base held the same, shows growers what each one adds.
Where each bottle sits in the cycle
SUPERthrive’s timing in grey, Bloom’s in yellow, across shared stages of the grow.

Only SUPERthrive products with timing printed on their own pages are mapped. The Vitamin Solution is dosed at transplanting and for clones, then for maintenance at a frequency you choose; the 4-4-4 goes in just before planting and then every 4–6 weeks. Pale bars are varying windows. Bloom’s bars follow its weekly feed charts; pale Bloom bars are as-needed bottles.
Background, science and sources
Who SUPERthrive are
SUPERthrive dates back to 1939, when Dr. John Thomson started it in a garage with his original formula, per its own site. SUPERthrive’s site says it’s part of the Green Garden Products family, alongside the Ferry-Morse home gardening brand, and its products are sold through ferrymorse.com.
The range on those pages is the Plant Vitamin Solution with Kelp (labelled 0.5-0-0, in 4 oz, 1 pint, 1 quart and 1 gallon), Foliage-Pro 9-3-6, Pro-TeKt 0-0-3, Orchid-Pro, Bonsai-Pro, an Organic 4-4-4 granular with mycorrhizae, and an Organic Neem Oil Leaf Polish. The dosage guide covers seedlings and clones, flowers and ornamentals, cannabis, orchids, lawns, succulents and trees, so it’s pitched at home gardeners and growers alike (our read).

What each company brings
SUPERthrive: A long-running, widely known kelp vitamin solution with a dosage guide for many crops, plus a liquid base, a silicon supplement, specialty orchid and bonsai feeds, a granular organic fertilizer and a neem leaf polish.
Bloom: one additive for each stage of the crop, seaweed, humic and sea mineral inputs, foliar sprays, and weekly feed charts for soil, coco and hydro. Rates and timing are on every product page.
Cropping Solutions, the other brand under Agricultural Organics, isn’t part of this report.
Dose basis: how each side counts
SUPERthrive prints rates in teaspoons or drops per gallon. Vitamin Solution maintenance is 1/4 tsp per gallon (about 0.33 ml/L), weekly or monthly; transplanting is 1 tsp per gallon (about 1.3 ml/L). Their cannabis guidance is 1/4 to 1 tsp per gallon depending on stage. Orchid-Pro and Bonsai-Pro are mixed into the water every time you water.
Bloom prints ml per litre on a weekly feed chart. Different products, different bases, so the numbers aren’t like for like.

Rates as printed on each company’s page (1 US gallon is 3.785 L). Bloom’s rates are per litre of nutrient solution, dosed weekly per its feed charts. Pick a product and your tank size.
Silicon in plantsWell supported
Luyckx and colleagues (2017) review silicon in plants: silica laid down in cell walls for physical strength, and links to tolerance of salinity, drought, metals, pathogens and pests.
Why it matters here: Pro-TeKt and Bloom Silica are both silicon products, so silicon is the shared ground. The review is general plant science and doesn’t compare products.
