Clonex and Bloom
Clonex looks after the first couple of weeks: the cut, the dome, the first feed. Bloom picks up from there. One bottle sits near theirs at the cutting.

This Fit Report is a summary of publicly available information about Clonex and its products, taken from their own website, labels and published material as of 5 November 2026. We’ve linked each source so you can check it yourself. Rates are as printed on each company’s own pages; we don’t show prices. It isn’t affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by Clonex, and product names belong to their owners. Products, rates and claims change, so please confirm current details with the manufacturer before making any decision. Spotted something out of date? They get it rooted, Bloom takes it from there.
The Clonex line is all propagation: a rooting gel for the cut, a clone and seedling feed, and a mist for mothers and fresh cuttings. Their guide says to stop the mist once clones are transplanted. That’s where most of Bloom’s weekly program starts, so the two hand over rather than overlap.
- Stays as is: Rooting Gel, Clone Solution, Clonex Mist and Mist Concentrate.
- Both have one: a product for the cutting. Gel at the cut, or Bloom’s Roots as a dip and weekly after.
- Not on their list: anything past rooting: base, stage additives, kelp, humic, minerals and foliars.

Timing comes from the Clonex product pages and their propagation guide. The gel is used at the cut. Mist goes on the mother 2–3 days before cutting, then on clones every 2 days, stopping at transplant. The guide has Clone Solution as the first watering after transplant, so it’s pale in early veg (our read). Bloom’s bars follow its weekly feed charts; pale Bloom bars are as-needed bottles.
Why each one fits
What the Bloom product does, the research behind that kind of input, and where it sits in a program that already runs.
Gel at the cut, Roots after it
What it does. Roots carries amino acids, B vitamins and fulvic acid. It runs at 1 ml/L as a cutting dip, or 0.5 ml/L weekly from cuttings and veg through flower, stopping in the final 1–2 weeks.
How it stacks. The Clonex guide has the gel at the cut and Clone Solution as the first feed. Roots can come in once clones go into the weekly feed, so a grower could run them in sequence, or test the gel against a Roots dip (our read).
Kelp and humic from the first pot
What it does. Seaweed (southern bull kelp) and Humate (10% humic acid) run seedling through flush, at 1 and 2.5 ml/L weekly. Seafuel, tuna and kelp, runs at 1 ml/L weekly from clone through late flower.
A review of seaweed extracts reports effects on root development, nutrient uptake and stress tolerance. A major humic review links humic substances to more lateral roots. Neither tests these bottles or cannabis.
Ali et al. (2021), Plants (review) · Canellas et al. (2015), Scientia Horticulturae (review)
How it stacks. The Clonex guide warns a regular grow feed can burn a fresh transplant. Our read: start Bloom’s tonics at the low end once roots are out of the cube.
Foliars and stage bottles
What it does. Groigen is a 20 ml/L veg spray, lights off, as needed. Pre goes in mid veg, Ultra at the flip and Final in the last two weeks, each 1 ml/L weekly. These are timing tools, so there’s no study cited for them here.
How it stacks. Clonex Mist stops at transplant and Groigen starts in veg, so the leaf gets a hand-over too, not a double-up (our read).
Their line, Bloom’s fit at a glance
Matched on job. Clonex prints ml per gallon; Bloom prints ml per litre on a weekly feed chart. Tap a tag to filter.
Both are used at the cutting. The gel seals the cut; Roots is a liquid that carries on in the weekly feed.
A first feed for clones. Nothing in Bloom’s range does this job.
Their guide stops it at transplant. Bloom’s foliars start in veg.
The same job as the mist, in a bigger mix-it-yourself size.
A two-part base for veg through bloom.
Southern bull kelp from seedling, and tuna and kelp from clone.
10% humic acid, plus trace minerals from sea water.
One bottle for each stage, mid veg to the final flush.
Foliars that pick up in veg, after Clonex Mist stops.
Minerals and carbohydrates for the rest of the grow.
Put it side by side
Where both ranges have a product for the same job, the fair answer is a test in your own room. Here’s what to watch and how to keep it fair.
Keeping it fair
- Same plants. Clones off the same mother, same cultivar, same age.
- Same room. Same light, climate, media, pot size and watering.
- Same base. Keep the base feed and EC the same on both sides.
- One change. Change only the product being tested, and write down what you see each week.
Where the programs complement each other
Clonex to rooting, Bloom from transplant
Clonex’s line stops once clones are transplanted. Bloom’s weekly program runs from there to the flush, so the two line up end to end.
Clone Solution first, Bloom tonics after
Bloom has no seedling or cutting feed. Clone Solution handles that, then Seaweed, Seafuel and Humate come in at low rates once roots are out (our read).
Gel at the cut, Roots in the feed
The gel seals the cut. Roots works as a dip or at 0.5 ml/L weekly, so a grower could run them in sequence, or test one against the other (our read).
Already covered
- The cut. Clonex Rooting Gel, dipped so the whole cut is covered.
- The first feed. Clone Solution for clones and seedlings, with each irrigation.
- The dome. Clonex Mist on mothers before cutting, then on clones every 2 days.
Stays exactly as is
- Rooting Gel. Keep it at the cut, or test it against a Roots dip.
- Clone Solution. Bloom has no seedling or cutting feed.
- Clonex Mist and Mist Concentrate. Nothing in Bloom’s range does this job.
Background, science and sources
Who Clonex are
Clonex is a propagation line developed by Growth Technology Ltd, a UK company in Taunton, Somerset. In the US it’s sold by Hydrodynamics International (HDI), which says it has been family owned and operated since 1997. HDI’s page says the line has been around for almost 30 years.
HDI’s US Clonex range is Rooting Gel, Clone Solution, Clonex Mist and Mist Concentrate. HDI says the gel is registered with the EPA and approved for all crops, including food crops. HDI publishes a propagation guide, and sells Root Riot starter cubes and two nutrient lines alongside Clonex.

What each company brings
Clonex: A rooting gel, a clone and seedling feed, a mist for mothers and cuttings, and a step-by-step propagation guide.
Bloom: one additive for each stage of the crop, seaweed, humic and sea mineral inputs, foliar sprays, and weekly feed charts for soil, coco and hydro. Rates and timing are on every product page.
Cropping Solutions, the other brand under Agricultural Organics, isn’t part of this report.
Dose basis: how each side counts
Clonex prints Clone Solution at 20 ml per gallon (5 ml per quart), about 5.3 ml/L, used with each irrigation. The mist is ready to use, and the concentrate is 1 part to 3 parts water. Bloom prints ml per litre on a weekly feed chart.
Clonex’s products work in propagation and Bloom’s mostly after it, so the rates rarely sit in the same tank.
